Relationship Selling To Make More Sales

Relationship selling? Have you heard of it? You can make a commission in sales, but you can build a fortune in relationship. Do you know that you can make more sales from relationship selling than any other sales techniques?

The most powerful salesmanship is building a relationship with your customers. Treat them as friends not as customers; you want to be sure that they treat you the same way too.

Why? You may view them as a friend, that’s not enough; they must also see you as friends. The friendship has to be mutual for any sales to take place. That's the secret of relationship selling.

Building friendship with your customers got to be genuine. You can treat them just like any of your friends. You do not talk about sales to your friend all the time. You share more personal stuffs with your friends. How you talk to your friends is how you should talk to your customers.

In selling to friends, you can cut those sales techniques, those closing questions. You are selling from a different angle when you are selling to friends.

You are selling based on the trust they have for you. If you care for them and is very sure that your product can improve their life, most likely they will buy. Unlike selling to customers, they behave differently, they have defensive wall towards you.

Knocking down that wall has to take place before you get to sell to them. That's the difference between normal sales techniques and relationship selling.

Now that doesn't mean you can lower your professional standard when selling to friends. All the more you got to upkeep your professional standard because they are your friends. It shows that you respect the friendship you both shared by showing your professionalism.

It takes time to build a relationship. Some salesmen feel that it's a waste of time to call anyone if it's not a sales call. If you have this thought too, you may want to consider changing this thought. Two reasons why you should dump this thought away.

- If the objective of your call is just to sell things, sooner or later you'll find that no one wants to pick up your call. Your friends will start to avoid you. In the end, you lose more sales than you can imagine.

- Building a relationship requires frequent interaction. The communication must be outside of business in order to grow a relationship.

Your friends would want to receive your call because they know that you are genuine. Furthermore, they remember you as a sales person, they will remember you if they ever need your products. Your competitor can never outsell you when you form a strong relationship with your customers.

There are many ways to build relationship with your customers. The principle is to get out of the office environment. A few ideas for you:

  • Meet for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
  • Invite him/her to a concert.
  • Bring him to a seminar.
  • Play golf.
  • Invite him to your home.
  • Do sports.
  • Organize family outing.
  • Organize BBQ.
