Recently I contributed to an e-book about becoming an entrepreneurs, The Money Monkey. Why monkey? I do not know. Perhaps the person who compiled this book simply love monkey. 40 authors contributed to The Money Monkey, including me. Some authors who contributed are Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn, Charles Burke etc. Being able to contribute in the same book with them really flatten me. This is the list of authors who contributed to this special project. Why special project? Because 25 of the profit goes to Red Cross. This book on sale at a reasonable price for less than $10. A very interesting book to me. Have you ever wonder why some people makes better decision than others? Did you know that by having more information doesn't neccessary makes a better decision? Blink by Malcolm Gladwell is about human decision and behaviour. I finish this book a few months back. I am fascinated by the information he wrote. After I read Blink, I realize why I had that gut feel about some advertisement that works and some don't. I love the story of how an experience army guy won a mock up war with no information of the enemy. It also talks about how human perceive things. We usually link Black people (no offence) to crime. We tends to link to what is going happen when some small things occurred. A book on gut feeling, perception. The way you see the world around you starts from within. Get it from Amazon.

Recently, we did a marketing campaign for our business. We used different types of marketing tactics to bring in the response. There's a few observations. 1. Marketing to targetted people create better response. 2. Direct mailer creates the best response though it's more work and costly. 3. Generic advertisement like classified ad doesn't create the expected result. It needs the least amount of work. 4. If the advertisement is buried with many other ads, it's not effective. 5. Suddenly, felt the urge of sharing some inner thought. Many of my peers is on an easier road than I am. They chose to work for others. They have a stable income. Working an average of 44 hours a week. They are able to go on a holiday and not worry about work issues. Isn't it great to have a life like that? While I chose a different path. A decision I made a three years back. For the first year of my business, I do not even have the luxury to go on holiday. When I do go on holiday, business is always on my mind. I had to manage cashflow in my business. I had long lost that feeling of stable income or job security. I asked myself last night, "is this the life that I want?" "Will I walk the same path again if I can turn back time? The answer to both is YES. It was tough. There was even a point that I want to gave up. But I was almost down, but never went down. I pushed myself for another step. And I see results. Each time I pushed myself further, my value gone up. Each time I pushed myself further, people are willing to pay more for my service. Monetary term is a bi-product of who I am and the value that I provide. I thank God for the tough times. I learnt more during those tough times than during good times. I chose YES to both question because I am happy at where I am now. I grow as a person, I grow much faster than any of my peers. I have the freedom to choose. Freedom to go on a holiday, freedom to exercise during working hours when it's not so crowded. To me, freedom is human's best happiness.

If you read the previous post, you would have learnt that our first learning center has break even. However, the second wave of marketing has hit rock. It did not create the expected result. We did not get a single sign up. I analysed that it should be the timing of the marketing. Currently the schools are having exam. Therefore, most parents wouldn't want to take up course for their kids yet. We will also be tweaking our headline of our brochures to test the result. I beleive the next run of marketing will give us an excellent result. A change of headline can improve you result tremendously. Oct 29, Learning Center in Operation

After much preparation, we had our first learning center launched. It is a very exciting journey for me. Our first marketing launch brought us the clients that we need. We were able to break even in the first week. Luckily for me, my business partner is working very hard to achieve this. I am grateful for the result. I learnt that I should be grateful for all the things. Good things or bad things, I must give thanks for them. I uses some objects to remind me to be grateful for everyday. Oct 24, The Learning Center is done

Finally after months of searching, meetings, negotiation, we had finanlly confirm the place for the learning center. Marketing will start at the end of this week. I felt synergy working with my business partner in the last two weeks. I never had this feeling before. Only recently I really felt the synergy between the two of us. She doing the things that she is good at doing. I'm doing the things that I'm good at. We are cummunicating, discussing our ideas and views. In the past it was either my way or the highway. Maybe as one gets older, one start to mellow down. It a good feeling to run our business this way. I am grateful to have a business partner who can completment my weakness.

Yesterday the event is over. Teambuilding using Domino developed by this group of students had concluded yesterday. After months of mentoring them, guiding them, yesterday was the actual event. They put up a good show. The participants, about 13 years old, learn about leadership, teamwork, patience, persistency after the event. I had managed to identify a few potential facilitators who will be able to assist in my future events. The last few days was a hectic for me. There was a few events going on at the same day. I was travelling around, conduct workshops, attend meeting. Don't have the chance to sit in front of my computer to do some work. Today is the only day, I can do something in front of my conputer. I had my best sleep last night for the past week. And it is good to know that I had acheived much over the past week. I am grateful for things that had run smoothly for me.

We are preparing a joint project with a group of 19 years old students. This particular group of students developed a team building program using dominos for teenagers. Few months back they approached us to collaborate. And our company agreed to help them. We managed to secure a school that is willing to do this team building project. Next week is the actual run of the training program. Last week, my team went down to have a look on their dry run. We realized that there are so many loose ends that need to be tighten. From the time the participants comes in to the end of the program is not well planned. The MC and the facilitators are also not confident in putting up a good show for participants. My team gave them lots of pointers. Share with them on making the program more flowing. Gave them a short training on public speaking. Wow, there're so many things to tie up, and the actual program is next week. My company is at stake. I am putting my company at risk when I agreed to help them with this program. I am scare of the actual day, whether this group of students will put up a good show. My company will take a bad hit if they don't do it well. I put a lot of pressure on them as well to make sure they perform well. The intention is I want them to grow. This is what the real world is all about. Performing to your best or you are phase out. I want them to learn to handle this type of pressure in such a young age. That's how human grows. We grow under stress. I really hope they will grow from this experience. This site is only 3 weeks old. However, I had received some harsh words from some on regarding the theme of my site. I am upset by the response of some. The intention of having this site is to encourage you to pursue your dreams, take action on your ideas. I received little education, but if I can do it, so can you. When I first started my first business, I had to beg for business deal. Because nobody trust us. It takes lots of time to improve and build the business. At least now, people are paying us good money for our services. I could not do this alone. There are many people I must thank. All my mentors, my business partners, my friends and my family members. All I achieved today is given by all of them. Of course, I must thank God for the strength to carry on when times are tough. The intention of this site is to motivate others. Well, in the world of business sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. Just last month, we had lost two major trainng contracts for schools. After many months of following up and preparing the proposal for them, they turn around, change their mind, decided not to do the training. It was a challenging month as we lost these two major contracts. With God blessing, just over yesterday and today we had three new contracts in the going. From a challenging month, we are going into a exciting month. I almost let an opportunity pass by. Fortunately, things turn out good. One school teacher asked us to do training for all her teachers. Unfortunately, we don't do training for teachers. SHe replied, "oh, then it's ok, thanks." While she was about to hang up, I quickly asked her if she was planning any training for her students as well. Wow, she said ,"Yes". She continued to share her plans for her students. I propose some ideas to her. And she goes, "let's do it. I want your company to train my kids." My team is in estacy after a challenging month. A lesson for me. I'm also learnig everyday. Always ask when opportunity is at your door step. If I had forgot to ask that question, I would have let that opportunity slip by. Self made millionaire will not let an opportunity slip by easily. This is one of the funniest seminar that I've attended. Dr John Gray made us laugh through-out the 3 hours. At the same time, he explained why men and women behave differently. 1. Women need to feel that they are being heard. Men need to feel they are successful. That's why men are always doing something. Men need to do something. And women can sit there and just talk. It's because the hormone made men and women react this way. I'm glad that my wife insisted on going, It's funny and I learnt about communicating with the women. Just make them happy. All men wants their women to be happy. Dr John Gray says, "don't care about the men, just make the women happy. And the men will be happy." Does it sound true to you? Ok, I'm gonna picked up the book to read.

The power of networking Dr John Gray is here to give a talk. If you do not know who is he, you should know the book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Yes, he is the author of this famous book. Well, tomorrow is the talk but I could not get any tickets to go. My wife would love to go to hear him speak. I do my best to get tickets at the last minute. I sent an email to all my network. And WOW, within 2 hours, 3 of my friends offered me the tickets. Now I get to accompanied my wife to the seminar for free. I always believe in the power of network. One of my very good friend shared, "do not ask how can you benefit from the network, ask how can you contribute in your network." I shall continue to grow my network group. This means more seminars, more socializing for me.
